Vista RC2 + Mac Mini = Failure!

As reported by TUAW here, Vista RC2 doesn’t work on the Mac Minis. Or at least, it doesn’t work on mine. I’ve heard reports of some Mini users getting the install to work with no problems. On my machine, the Vista installation routine doesn’t like the smell of the partition that Bootcamp creates, and refuses to install.

This is a shame – I thought Microsoft were actively supporting the Mini, and other Apple machines. This struck me as a Smart Move. Shame they’ve broken things in this release. Unless, of course, it’s a Bootcamp, or firmware problem…

I’ll have to continue to see if I can find a workaround. Or wait for the RTM release – not that there’s any certainty that this release will fair any better.

have you tried the following method:

install xp first, then boot with vista cd.
after boot, delete the efi partition 200mb, then install vista on the xp partition

how much ram are you using im getting a mac mini core duo 1.66ghz with 512mb ram for christmas will vista run on that, do you just use boot camp to install it like it were windows xp and use the drivers cd whats OS X makes to install sound drivers graphics etc

xiaopeng – nope, not tried that. Come to think of it, I’ve not tried RTM yet. Must give that a go.

Ryan – If you’re getting a Mac Mini, I’d get _at least_ 1gb of ram. That’s what I’ve got in my machine, and I’ve found even that struggles. Much as I’d like 2gb, I can’t afford it. Or justify it. I’ll be posting about that another time…
