Playstation Home is…pointless? Quite pretty, and I think it’s a neat achievement but I can’t help thinking “why?” Spooky avatar though.

I agree. I downloaded the Home data this morning, logged in, started making an avatar and then stopped to really think about what I was doing. I have no doubt I could sink a lot of time into outfitting my character with clothing, or decorating my "apartment" with virtual furniture, but in the end the question you raise is a good one. Why?
I find the whole "second life" thing pretty unappealing.
